Katy Perry Divorce, Katy Perry’s divorce was arranged by God to help boost churchgoers, her mother has reportedly suggested.
The American singer’s parents Keith and Mary Hudson are pastors and she had a religious upbringing.
Last week, Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy following months of speculation about their marriage. There were rumours her parents might be unhappy with the split, but in their first service since the filing they have apparently shown that is not the case.
“I'm sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight,” Mary reportedly told the congregation at the Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio.
“I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012.”
Mary and Keith were advertised as “Katy Perry’s parents” on a board outside the church, which stated they were preaching on January 4 and 5.
Their sermon lasted around 90 minutes, with an estimated 300 people crowding in to hear them speak.
Keith also discussed his famous daughter, and struggled to contain his emotion as he explained it is parents’ duty to look after their offspring no matter what.
“I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children,” he is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Sun.
“Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race. They are counting on you.
“I believe in God, for every one of my children.”
He added Katy’s profession has enabled them to spread their message far and wide.
“God has given us a platform to go in and meet people - and they like us because we are cool,” he said.
Neither Katy nor Russell have discussed the reasons for their split after 14 months of marriage. It’s been claimed he was keen to start a family, while she was more focused on her career.
New allegations suggest Katy got tired of Russell joking about her parents’ religion in front of them.
He is a former sex and drug addict but she has always maintained her mother and father got along well with the British comedian and never judged him.
“Russ was forever making lewd jokes at the dinner table and poking fun at her parents' beliefs,” an insider told the publication.
“He managed to restrain himself in the beginning - just. But as the marriage progressed, he got worse and kept winding up her family.
“After the lust wore off, reality hit home about their differences and she was left thinking, 'What have I done?'”
